Accounting

  • Double-entry journals

Every entry must balance; posted entries can't be edited, only reversed.

  • Tamper-evident ledger

Posted journals are hash-chained, so any change after posting shows up on a check.

  • Sealed audit trail

Every change anyone makes is logged and sealed in SHA-256 stretches (Companies (Accounts) Rules, rule 3(1)).

  • Maker-checker on journals

Hand-made journals (optionally above an amount) wait for a second person to approve; the same person can't do both.

  • Chart of accounts

A ready Indian chart is seeded; system accounts can be renamed but not deleted.

  • Recurring journals

Rent and similar entries post themselves each month, never twice.

  • Month close checklist

Before a month is locked, Books lists what is still missing (GST set-off, recurring entries).

  • Year-end close

Closes a year once the one before is closed; nothing posts into it afterwards.

  • Opening balances

One screen to enter each account's balance; any gap goes to opening balance equity.

Start Books part-way through a year, bringing the year's income and expenses so far; undo is possible.

  • Opening dues and advances
