A firm plan
Your firm is the subscriber. Partners are admins on every client; staff see only the clients they are assigned to.
CA firms and accountants
Dexta Books is double-entry accounting that does the Indian tax and company-law work from each client's posted entries. It runs on its own, with its own sign-in, so your firm doesn't need the rest of the suite.
Your firm
Your firm is the subscriber. Partners are admins on every client; staff see only the clients they are assigned to.
Admin, accountant, CA or reviewer, and read-only viewer. Partners assign staff to each client as accountant or CA.
One person works in any number of client companies and moves between them from the same sign-in.
Per client
Screens fit the client: nine entity types, and GST shown or hidden by whether the client is regular, composition or not registered.
| Area | What Books prepares |
|---|---|
| GST | GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B with set-off, rules 37, 37A, 42 and 86B every month, GSTR-2B matching, GSTR-9 and 9C, IFF and PMT-06 for quarterly filers, CMP-08 |
| TDS and TCS | Challan 281, Form 140 (was 26Q), Form 144 (was 27Q) and Form 143 (was 27EQ) files for Protean's FVU, correction statements, 26AS matching, lower-deduction certificates |
| Income tax | Tax computation with each add-back traced, advance tax and interest under 234A/B/C, losses and MAT credit, Form 10-IC, ITR-6 working papers and a tie-out to the 3CD |
| Tax audit | Form 3CA/3CB with 3CD: Books answers 13 clause groups from the books and your team answers the rest. Whoever answers a clause can't review it. |
| Company law | Schedule III statements with notes, cash flow, CARO 2020, MGT-7 or 7A, MSME Form I, and an AOC-4 XBRL draft for your XBRL preparer to finish in the MCA tool |
For LLPs, partnerships, proprietors, HUFs and trusts, Books keeps the books and does TDS and the 3CD. It does not yet compute ITR-3, 4, 5 or 7, or prepare ICAI-format accounts for non-companies. GST returns are prepared in Books; you file them on the portal and record the ARN.
Deadlines and notices
Every statutory due date in a client's year, across 29 kinds of due date, ticked off when Books sees the filing done. Alerts go out a week before, a day before, and on the day it's late, on the bell and by email.
A score out of 100 for each client, less points for late filings and open notices, with the reasons shown.
Books reads the authority, form, DIN, dates and amount from a notice PDF or scan, in English or Hindi, on your server. Each notice is tracked from receipt to closed, with an owner and a reply date.
Fourteen reply templates. Every version is kept, and a reviewer comments, asks for changes or approves. Notices, acknowledgements and challans are stored encrypted.
Not yet: one dashboard across all your clients. Today you open each client's calendar and health score in turn.
Clients come and go
Groups, ledgers, parties, stock items and opening balances from Tally's XML, then the day book. Undo is possible.
Bring back one company's books from a backup without touching any other client.
One zip of a client's books when they leave, and deletion once the law allows.
An audit pack with an integrity report, statements, ledgers and registers, and an accountant's pack of a year's books in Excel.
A ledger auditors trust
Posted entries can't be edited, only reversed. The ledger is hash-chained, so any change after posting shows up on a check, and the audit trail is sealed as rule 3(1) of the Companies (Accounts) Rules expects. Hand-made journals can wait for a second person.
In the demo
For your own firm
Books runs on its own for your clients. For your firm's own staff, the rest of the suite shares one employee record, so hours, pay and reviews agree.
