GST on expense claims
Record the GST on a company invoice so Books can take the input tax credit.
Updated 15 October 2026
What you’ll do: add the GST details from an invoice made out to your company, so the tax can be claimed back.
Who can do this: every employee adds the details. Finance sends them to Books.
Steps
- On a new expense in Dexta Spend, tick The receipt is a GST invoice made out to the company, with its GSTIN on it.
- Enter the Supplier’s GSTIN, Supplier’s name and Invoice number.
- Enter the Company’s GSTIN on the invoice.
- Enter the Amount before GST (₹), or click Work it out from the amount. Choose the GST rate.
- Under Tax charged, choose CGST and SGST or IGST, as printed on the invoice. Add the HSN or SAC code.
- Save and submit as usual. Once approved, Dexta tells you the company takes this GST as input tax in Dexta Books.
Good to know
- Each GSTIN is checked for its length and check character.
- If the state codes in the two GSTINs don’t match the tax type you chose, Dexta warns that the GST can’t be claimed.
- Finance can choose Send without the GST invoice when posting to Dexta Books.
