Connecting an attendance machine
Connect your eSSL or ZKTeco fingerprint or face machine so punches come into Dexta Time as they happen.
Updated 15 October 2026
What you’ll do: add your machine in Dexta Time, point the machine at Dexta, and approve it.
Who can do this: HR, with someone who can open the machine’s menu.
You need a machine that can send punches to a server (shown on the machine as Cloud Server Setting or ADMS). Most eSSL and ZKTeco machines can.
Steps
- In Dexta Time, open Attendance machines under Administration and click Add a machine.
- Fill in the Name, the Serial number (on the machine: Menu → System info → Device info), the Location, the time zone the machine’s clock uses, and what A punch means. Click Save machine.
- Open How to connect a machine on the same page and copy the server address shown there.
- On the machine, go to Menu → Comm. → Cloud Server Setting (or ADMS) and enter that address. Use HTTPS on port 443 where the machine allows it.
- Back in Dexta, the machine appears under Machines asking to connect. Click Approve (or Not ours if you don’t recognise it).
- Enrol each person on the machine under the number in their employee code. Then check Last heard from and Punches today in the list.
Good to know
- Punches the machine sends for a number Dexta doesn’t know wait under Punches waiting for a person. Who is who on the machines shows who is enrolled.
- A machine that can’t use HTTPS can send plain HTTP if you tick Accept plain HTTP from this machine. Those punches travel unencrypted unless you use an office relay.
- Have a machine that can’t connect at all? Use Import a machine’s file to bring in its export.
